Kimber Ultra Carry Ii
JoshDuvall replied to JoshDuvall's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I've not made a holster for a gun to be carried cocked and locked yet but had a question about it and this may sound stupid but, the only difference in molding the holster would be molding around the slide/thumb safety correct? Or I could be totally wrong. -
Kimber Ultra Carry Ii

Is the 3" 1911 you're refering to from Rings the Springfield Micro Compact 1911? If so how close is it to the Kimber Ultra Carry II? I can't seem to find consistent specs on the Springfield Micro. Thanks for all the help. -
I have a customer wanting me to make him a holster for his Kimber Ultra Carry II (3") and I can't find a dummy gun for it or anything even remotely close. I was wondering what everyones opinions were on molding holsters with the actual gun and if so what precautions should be taken in doing so? I just honestly don't want to mess up the finish on a customers nice pistol and was wondering just how safe it is to mold with the actual gun? Or does anybody know where I could get a dummy for this gun? Thanks for all the help.

2Nd Holster
JoshDuvall replied to JoshDuvall's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The Chicago screws are holding the actual holster to the print panel. I couldn't really think of any other way to do it with this particular model of gun. To me the LCR seems kind of bulky to carry in a pocket. It fits fine in cargo pants (which the customer wears) but I definately wouldn't recommend it for any type of jeans. -
This is my 2nd holster and 1st pocket holster. It's for a Ruger LCR .38 special. Not a big fan of pocket holsters myself but it's what the customer wanted. Honest critiques greatly appreciated. P.S. - Sorry for the poor photography.

I bought my first machine through Steve (Cobra Class 4) and I'm really glad I did. The quality of not only the equipment but also service has been outstanding. Any questions i've ever had Steve has patiently explained an answer and guided me through any set up I've needed help with and then even called back a few days later to make sure everything was going good. The quality of his machines are excellent and for these reasons, among many others, I will be going back to Steve when it comes time for me to purchase a lighter weight machine for chaps and bags and so forth. I highly recommend Steve and his machinery.

This is 1 of 2 sheaths I'm working on for an ohio customers custom knives. Sorry for the poor photography. I tried to get a good picture of the edges but I'm still a newbie at the whole camera thing. Critiques welcome.

I know this has been asked many times but I have to ask a follow up question. I see alot of people saying they're using 7/8oz 8/9oz leather on their holsters. To me this just seems extremely thin and lightweight. Am I just totally confused or mistaken on something or what? When I think 7/8oz leather I think maybe like 1/8" thick. Does that thickness sound right to ya'll or am I completely lost? Thanks for all the help.

The upper tension needs to be tightened. As far as I know (and take this with a grain of salt because I'm still new at this too) tighten both the main and aux tension the same amount each time you tightened and loosen too. I would get some scraps of the same stuff you're sewing and sew and adjust tension accordingly a little at a time until it's where you like it. I know this morning I gave myself a headache because I went to rethread the machine and when I started sewing all my knots where way on the bottom side and I couldn't figure out what the heck happened. I thought I had screwed up my tension real bad but I backtracked and found I had missed the needle bar hole when threading and that fixed the problem for the most part so make sure to go back and make sure you have everything threaded correctly first because it can be the easiest things that through things out of whack. Call Steve too and he'll be able to help. I know he's helped me alot with all of my newbie questions lol.

Thread tension problem. Silly mistake on my part. I'm learnin' though lol.

I talked with Steve again the other day and got the problem resolved. Machine runs like a champ now and Steve has given a few follow up calls to make sure everything is still runnin good. I appreciate all of you trying to help though.

well it's not so much as a movement when the needles is still below the feed plate. It's when the needle is at it's highest point before it's even entered the leather or after it's come out of the leather if that makes sense and it makes the needle like vibrate, almost kind of like you were plucking it like a guitar string. But there's nothing there hitting it. And it's not like it does it as it's coming out of the leather. I dont know I'll see if I can't make a video and post it to show it. I hope I explained myself clearly enough.

I talked to Steve today and he basically told me what esantro did. I just thought it was weird how the needle would click like that then kinda "shake" or "bend" vibrate or whatever when it wasn't even in the leather. Who knows i'm still new to this whole machine thing so i'm sure I'll run into some more road blocks or mental blocks along the way. I'm really glad I went with Steve on my purchase though becuase the customer service has already paid off a day after I got the machine lol.

Ok so I just got my new cobra sewing machine in and got it all set up and got to sewing. I have one question though. When i'm sewing the needle kind of clicks at the top of it's stroke. If I sew slow and watch the needle I can actually see the needle kind of bend to the left at the top of the stroke when it makes the clicking noise then on the way down it kind of bends to the left then comes back to center. It doesn't affect the stitch in anyway it's just kind of annoying. I also notice this when i'm turning the hand wheel where it kind of feels like it sticks then jerks free again (if that makes sense) maybe I'm just being paranoid but this isn't normal is it? What can I do to fix it? Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I have another question. Is it ok for the stem/vine to continue on past where it flows into the flower like it does on my bottom flower or is there a rule in the sheridan style that states that the flower has to be the very end of the stem? Or is it ok to continue the vine as long as I complete my circle? (Hope that makes sense). Oh sorry for the member change I couldn't figure out how to just change my display name.
