This is an eBay auction for a Vergez Blanchard stitching clam.  It is approximately 4'3" tall and has 2 1/2" jaws.   
The jaws are lined in sheepskin to protect the product being created.   
I also have added a little white rope to provide tension to the jaws while stitching, it was not included from Vergez.  I used the clam while standing and letting the clam rest against a workbench. 
It was damaged in shipment, but was professionally repaired by a wood specialist.   
Let me tell you the trial I had to endure to get this clam from Vergez.  No US importer that I am aware of carries this clam. 
Vergez's website is only in French and my email queries in English were not answered.  I wanted one anyways, so I placed my order and the website suddenly sprang to life with customer service.  I placed my order and since there is a 100 euro minimum order, I picked up a few other tools.  This clam cost about 67 euros (US$91).  Shipping was another 38 euros (US$50). 
About a 10 days later I received my package.  The cardboard box was bent at the top.  I opened it to find one of the clam's jaws completely broken off about 3" from the top. 
Knowing that my chances of good customer service at Vergez were minimal, I consulted a local wood furniture specialist.  He did an amazing job at repairing and restoring the strength to the clam.  He added two wood dowels to the piece, but otherwise, I cannot tell there was ever any damage.  There is no creaking or hint of structural problem.  I have created three small leather cases with the clam and it works seamlessly. 
It is an exceptional professional tool and if I were still in the leather trade, I would not sell it.
