  1. welcome to the site

  2. Hello, I'm new to the sewing scene and recently bought myself an old Singer 211G155 It came with a functional motor, but the table is in pretty rough shape and there is no drive belt. I'm used to old machines (I know enough to keep my old '76 datsun pickup on the road) and I'm excited to learn to restore and repair this singer. I'm interested in sewing primarily heavy canvas, tarpaulin, and occasionally leather. So far I'm try to read up on the forum, but I'm also looking for a source of parts for old machines like these. I think a few small knobs have broken off, and I have no idea where to start looking for replacements (it's not like there's a junkyard for sewing machines...or is there?). Also, I hear a lot of people recommend getting a sewing machine mechanic to inspect/repair, but as a poor grad student I don't think I can afford it. I have a copy of the old service manual, and although the pictures are barely visible, hopefully I can learn enough about oiling, tensioning, and timing to bring this machine back to life. Here are some more pictures: bottom of machine (are those tubes for oil?) table top broken bobbin winder pulley Thanks for letting me share!
