I recently purchased a side(15sqft) of black "oil skin" leather (according to my vendor foreign made - yeah I got it cheap - from in India I believe - pictured)
Problem I'm having is I'm getting REALLY bad dye transfer. (Pictured below as drawn across a regular white sheet of paper - front and back)
I talked to my vendor and he suggested resolene to coat it. I've searched the boards and seen multiple posts about how to finish/coat SELF DYED leather, but this is off the shelf and I didn't expect this much transfer. The brown oil skin I've been using is fine (as well as everything else I've bought from this vendor). I put a single coat of resolene (applied with a clean, old t-shirt) to it, but still am getting some dye transfer.
Is this normal for black "oil skin"? Is there anything I can do to "seal this" so I don't get ant transfer?
I prefer to work with "natural" (even if dyed) leathers that don't need to be sealed (it's kinda the look I'm going for and the resolene gives a "slick/shiney" finish). Any advice?
