Try shooting the pics outside. The light is better...incandescent bulbs tend to give an orange cast. Also,If you shoot outside your depth of field will probably be wider (i.e. pics more in focus). If you shoot on cloudy days that are pretty bright, you will eliminate the shadows put there by your auto flash.
