Hi -my name is Rick and I'm new to the group though is have done a great deal of research on this subject. It's time to purchase a machine...
I have narrowed my search down to (I think) the Consew 227R-2 or the Artisan Toro 3000. Preferably new.
My requirements are: cylinder arm, servo motor, single needle, walking foot with reverse that matches the forward holes perfectly, capable of sewing a 301 stitch in leather up to 4 layers of 4-5 oz (1/4" to 3/8") with #138 (up to #277 maybe #346) thread, using a leather point needle. The end product will be handbags.
Machine speed is NOT an issue - though precision, accuracy and quality are.
I do unfortunately have a limited budget of around $2,000 (not the $2,999 range - more like $1,999...).
In the past I have discovered that good quality tools are a factor in producing a good quality work. I do not want to wrestle with a machine that no matter your skill level (mine set a novice) that I will be disappointed and discouraged with. I do understand there is and will be a continuing learning curve and I am willing to work with that - but no matter how good you are you can not make that square peg go into the round hole and make it look good!
I ask you for your experience and advice in helping me make an educated decision that will not be disappointing or costly.
