Seiko Lcw 8Bl Service Manual/ Safety Clutch
xilli007 replied to xilli007's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thank you very much for all the advice and information! Unfortunately the machine didn't do the 'click' even though when I put quite a bit of force on the handwheel... I ended up undoing the screws of the gear wheels and putting them in place manually.. After struggling a bit with getting the timing right, the machine seems to stitch alright again. Any tips on how other people get there timing right on a rotating hook are always welcome! Thanks! -
Hi all! I recently acquired a Seiko LCW 8BL and am looking for a service manual...anybody who can help? I currently have got a problem with what I think is the safety clutch... I was stitching and some thread jammed up around the hook, I cleared all the thread out to notice then that the hook doesn't rotate anymore... After some googling I found that a safety clutch prevents hook from getting damaged when it jams up. I've located the button but have no idea how to get the machine working again. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I recently acquired an old Rodi hand skiving machine. My plan with it is to refurbish it completely and make it functional again. After some adjustments, cleaning off some rust, sharpening the knife, oiling bits etc it finally skives and splits leather successfully! The only problem I find is that it leaves quite severe marks on the back..... Has anyone got any experience with these machines and knows how to solve this problem...? I was thinking of grinding off the ridges of the feeding wheels but I'm not sure it would remain enough 'strength' to feed the leather in properly.... Any help greatly appreciated!!

Thanks Tor! I thought I needed something like that but I assumed everything was there and there was going to be a special method or something I wasn't aware of. Thanks!

I sort of cleaned the inside wheel a bit and it seems to catch a bit better. I still have problems with the thread spreading evenly over the bobbin... I know this threading probably looks really funny to some of you but it seems the only way to get the right tensioning on there Thanks again !

Does somebody know how the built-in bobbin winder on the Seiko CH series works (CH8B to be specific)? I have tried a couple of different things but I don't seem to get good tensioning nor getting the thread to wind evenly around the bobbin. At the moment I use the first tensioning screw, than through the metal loop and then directly on the bobbin but it doesn't spread the thread like this and the winder doesn't turn very well.... Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I bought a seiko stw8b last week which works brilliantly but it doesn't seem to have the usual lever on the body to adjust the stitchlength. Does somebody know how the length of the stitches is adjusted? Thanks

Interchangeable Parts Singer 29K - Adler 30-1
xilli007 replied to xilli007's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
thanks for the reactions! The rectangular bit broke off by the ring as the shoemaker dropped it whilst cleaning the machines for sale. I thought it would be able to weld it back together, but a friend says it's impossible... Found the that German site and will buy the part from them if there isn't another solution. But it costs 4-5 times as much as the singer part, and they only differ very slightly. I personally don't see why it should cost so much more... On the site it also says he used the part for singer as adler, but doesn't guarantee it will work anytime..that makes me doubt what to do Thanks anyway! -
Hi guys! Last week I bought a couple sewing machines from a retired shoemaker (serious bargain!) and one of them needs a new part. It concerns an Adler 30-1 (I think '-1', as it's colour is light green....?) and the part that needs to be replaced is the 'feed motion ring slide bar' or in German 'transportwinkel'. Now, this original part is terribly difficult to find (or as somebody can help me...?) and if so, it costs about 150 dollars/ 100 pounds for which I could buy an old same model machine and use the parts of it. The Singer 29k is a very similar machine to the adler 30 series and I was wondering if the part I need would be interchangeable..? I have read on the internet, on several places, that these machines use parts which are the same, but not all of them ofcourse... Has someone of you got any experience with interchanging parts of these machines? The part I need is rather easy to find for the singer 29k and in the pictures it looks exactly the same.. example of part for singer: http://www.college-sewing.co.uk/82053-FEED-MOTION-RING-SLIDE-BAR-SINGER-29K I emailed them and they say they don't know for sure if it's possible to use for me, but the ring has got the exact same measurements as mine but the rectangular bit is in some ways a millimeter out etc. so I'm not sure if it would matter... Thanks a lot in advance!!
