Hi all! Long time place holder, haven't participated yet, but that's about to change. To get started here's one of my favorite pieces that I made; a Chess Box!
Based soley on an image I saw in a book entitled "Leather as Art and Craft" by Thelma R. Newman. The black and white photo is from the book. After I made the box I was finally able to track down and talk to some people at the museum and found out that it wasn't on display, and that it was actually a game box with backgammon on the inside, and possibly Nine Men's Morris on the reverse; I don't recall exactly now. I had a standing invitation to see it in storage should I ever get to New York, but alas that never came to pass.
Fully hand made, even the wood frame is hand cut dovetail joints (I am not a wood worker, good thing the leather covers the joints from view!)
The leather chess pieces are my own design with a mod 1970's feel.
