I would like to continue the thread of timing the vibrator presser foot. Same machine, Consew 226. Mine is completely out of whack compared to the owners manual. When the needle is in the lowest position, the vibrating presser foot is in the HIGHEST position, so they are not helping the machine to stitch. So when I stitch slowly I get a decent stitch, but when I speed up the thread is gobbed on the bottom. I am also frequently getting thread wrapped around the hook. I found where the eccentric cam is, loosened the two set screws, but I can't get the cam to turn. Am I being too gentle? I even disengaged the cam arm at the big thumb screw, but that didn't change things. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Hook To Needle Timing For Consew 226

While poking around, I noticed that there was some wear on the wheel where the clutch engages and a dog with a spring on it that is drifting out from the plane of the wheel. I'm sure it wasn't designed that way. Looks like trouble down the road. Should I send you a photo here, or is there another email I should use? Don't know if that discussion is appropriate here. -

Dropped the needle bar a scant 1/16 and started stitching fine, a little tension work, and now I'm back in business. Very satisfying to learn a little about how this thing works. Thank you for your help. -

Am I correct in thinking that, to start, forget about tension, if it is skipping stitches that it is either hook or needle or both. So work on timing and needle bar adjustment? -

Got it. Yes, when the take-up lever is in the highest position the arrows line up exactly. -

I got the hook synced but can't see the arrow for the belt check. It is stitching, but poorly. Skips, messy on the bottom. Changed the needle, helped some. All was well until I let someone else use it yesterday. She tripped the clutch but before I knew it had messed with top thread tension, presser foot tension, was spinning the shaft trying to tinker around and fix the clutch issue. When I reset the clutch the hook was 3/4 inch out of time and the needle bar was too low. The hook had a little burr on it so I polished it off with some 600 emory paper. So now I'm just trying to get things back where they were. Maybe I don't have the timing right yet. The needles don't have a flat side so I'm doing my best to line up the scarf. Do I sound like I'm chasing my tail...feels like it. There must be a mrthodical way of going at this. -

I'm learning how to maintain my machine and need to set the hook to needle timing. I understand the principle of when the hook should pass the needle to pick up the thread but I can't figure out where the set screw is to free up the hook shaft so I can position the hook correctly. Can someone help me out?
