Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum. I am an antique enthusiast, and specialize in antique and vintage musical instruments. Today I found an older saddle I just couldn't pass up. I'll try to post some photos in the next couple of days. But I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone knows anything about the maker. I was taking some saddle soap to the leather to clean it up a bit, and found the name "Wallace - Smith". Beneath the name is a number. Does anyone know about this maker? I've found reference in some scarce articles online that Wallace & Smith Saddlery was based in Wisconsin? It sounds like the company was probably around at least in the 1890's-1930's? I see the Milwaukee Saddlery Company was founded from former craftsman from W&S. Milsco went on just 10 years after founding to create a special seat for the early Harley Davidson motorcycles, and is still making seats for Harley.
Does anyone know what the number the name "Wallace - Smith" might indicate? Is that a size, model, serial number?
If anyone has any information about this company I'd really appreciate it. As mentioned above, I'll get photos and more specs of the saddle up in the next couple of days. Thanks!
