Hi everyone, I'm still fairly new to leather work and I do it off and on so I need some guidance. I've currently been making checkbook cases, wallets but I'm not sure which type of leather to use for the inner parts of the wallet or checkbook. I've used pigskin but it has the rough flesh side and just doesn't work that well for these types of projects. Which type of leather has a sort of glazed side / finished side on both sides of leather? I'm sorry if my question is confusing I still don't know that much terminology. Thanks, Michael

Hi, I was going to hand stitch it, and I was going to use waxed nylon thread, I was looking online and it said you should use 277 thread. I've always had trouble stitching because it ends up looking sloppy as a result of the thread being too bulky.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. It is a mini credit card case about 3 inches across and 4 inches up. I was going to do 6 SPI I'm still new to this and this was the first time ever doing inlay stitching.

Hi all, I recently carved and stamped a design that I want to make into a coaster. I made a coaster in the past but it ended up getting a bit discolored from the moisture of the glasses and cans and whatnot. I put the Tandy leather factory super shene on it before using it thinking it would help it from staining but I was wrong. I'm still fairly new to the leathercraft game and I was wondering if anybody knew what i could use to keep it from staining from the moisture. I heard about Tan-Kote but I wanted to make sure from more experience leather crafters. Thanks

Hi all, This question is a bit confusing so I will do my best. I am very new to leatherwork, I've done a few kits and am trying my hand at making my own projects. I'm working on a (sorta) cellphone case. So I made the backing and I am trying to figure out how I should size the front piece of leather that I want to lace onto the back so that I could fit my cellphone in between those two layers. How do I do that? Is there a particular formula for figuring out how much bigger I should make the front piece so that there is some room for the cellphone to fit inside between the two layers (the front and the back pieces of leather)? Again, sorry my wording is so confusing. Thanks, Michael

Hi all, I am very new to leatherworking and have completed about six kits. I am interested in beginning a leather project from scratch. I have a couple of questions when it comes to lacing. When it comes to lacing hole sizes and spacing between holes I was wondering if it mattered much? To be clearer, do all multi-prong hole punches have the same spacing between each prong? How do I know how many SPI I should use for a project? Or is it just personal preference? I've noticed round hole punches and slot punches for lacing are sometimes measured 3/32". Does this mean I have to use lace that is 3/32" inches wide? I apologize for the slew of questions, I'm just having a hard time finding information online about this. I really love working with leather and am excited about moving on from kits. Thank you
