I have a shop press that I use to cut my leather and I am curious what you might recommend for a cutting board. I currently use HDPE Cutting Boards, but they seem to last me only about a month because the dies chip away at the cutting board over time. Is there something else I should be using? Or something I can do to prevent this?

I'm taking the belt and the pulley to the dealer so they can swap both out. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the advice! It looks like I have a 3" pulley. I contacted the dealer and I am going to swap it out tomorrow. Hopefully this will make sewing a little easier for me. Thanks again!

I am new to sewing and just picked up a Consew 206RB-5 last week with a servo motor. I am trying to get used to it but it seems to be a little too fast at its slowest speed. I have linked a video showing how fast it goes on the slowest speed. Is that normal? Does it usually go that fast on the slowest setting? Is there any way to make it go slower? Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nah5v6oUuB0&feature=youtu.be

The 206RB-5 is new. So is the Highlead GC0618-1SC, the rest are used.

Thanks for the input. I just called this morning and the Consew 226 sold, so I am back to the other options now.

I am a beginner and am looking at a few sewing machines available. I need to be able to sew two 5 oz pieces of leather together. Considering the price, which one of these would be best? They all have servo motors. Consew 226R-2 ($800) Highlead GC0618-1SC ($1,200) Adler K267 ($1000) Consew 206RB-5 ($1,250) Pfaff 1245 ($1,100) Pfaff 145 ($900) Thanks for your input.

I know this question has been asked many times, but I couldn't find anything that would suit my specific needs. I am new to sewing, meaning I have never touched a sewing machine, so I want something that is simple and easy to use. I will be sewing two 5 oz pieces of leather on top of each other. Is there any specific models that you can recommend? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input. I should clarify... I will be making 5 items or so a day, but each item requires 4 pieces, so I am looking at 20 cuts a day, and hopefully more as time goes by. JLS, I have tried searching to see what others have done to modify a press, but I can't seem to find any specifics on what needs to be done. Ken, is it worth spending the extra $300 to go with Texas Custom Dies? I am not a welder, but I might be able to find someone that can weld it for me. Thanks again for your help.

This is my first post, I've read a lot of good information here. I was hoping to get some advice... I want to cut 13" x 9" square pieces of cowhide leather. I won't be doing a large amount, maybe 5 per day. I have been looking at the Harbor Freight 20 ton shop press, but want to make sure this would be sufficient for my needs. If so, what do I need to do to modify it to cut leather? I am planning on using steel rule dies. Thanks for the help.
