Hi there, I would love to buy a post bed machine to do sewing on shoe uppers (5-7oz moccasin leather) but am not able to swing that right now. I have seen some flat bed machines with the roller wheels that enable you to get nice and close to the edges, i have a NS797 which in my understanding is a considered class 15. I'm finding conflicting info online whether I a roller wheel foot will work on this machine, i was hoping someone here can help me. If this machine is not capable of using a roller wheel can someone recommend a high shank flatbed machine that I might be able to look for locally. Thanks Ginny

Hi, I just started playing with some stamping tools I purchased, (craftool). They weren't very expensive, I just wanted to try it out (stamping) to see if I liked it, well I liked it very much . As I used the various stamps, I noticed that some required alot more wack to get a nice impression. Upon closer inspection of some of these tools, the quaility looked to be kinda crappy. Are there brands of stamps that are better quality than say craftool but not as high in price as say the Watts tools. I am sure they (Watts) are worth every penny, but I can't afford spend $50.00 for 1 stamp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your posts, I was not planning on trying to sew veg-tanned with this first machine. Rather I thought to first garner some skill doing flatwork, getting the feel for what leather sewing is all about. I have learned enough from reading other posts that one machine cannot do it all. I just want to try and choose a good machine that will get me started, this way if I really like it I can get a heavier duty machine that will sew veg-tan later. Would the Artisan 797 be comparable to some of the machines listed above? Thanks for your input. Pony

Hi, This is my first post. I am new to leatherworking, and would like to buy a used or new sewing machine that would be suitable for making chaps, saddlebags and the like. I would be using some of the lighter weight leathers to start, not veg tan for the bags. I am not wanting to spend more than about $700.00 at this time. Specific model #s on any machines would be appreciated. Thanks ponyup
