Thanks. If I make stitching holes in two seperate pieces, how do I get both sets of holes to line up for stitching?

Hi, I am a total newb. I will be hand stitching together 2 pieces of 4-5 oz leather. I will mark a stitching groove in both pieces. Then use a Japanese pricking iron for the holes. Do I pound through both pieces together with the iron? If I make holes on each price seperately. How can I be sure the stitching holes will line up together nicely? Or that one piece doesn't have too many holes? Thanks!

Hi, I am a beginner with some newb questions. I need a mallet for my pricking irons from good japan. I was interested in the poly mallet from Tandy. Can I not just get one a Home Depot? The only Tandy located near me is quite a drive. Not close at all! Thanks.

Hi, I am a beginner leather hobbyist. I have made some small projects and want to make something bigger. I can't afford a machine at the moment so everything is hand done. I want to make a bag similar to the one in the link below: https://www.cambridgesatchel.com/buy/the-classic/ I have a sewing awl, 2 goods japan holes punches (one six prong, one two prong) for making the sewing holes, and lots of waxed thread. When I use these punches, I am going to punch all the way through to my poundo board. My newb question is that if I make holes on the front piece of the bag, and make holes on the gusset piece of leather, can I sew them together? Or will one piece have too many holes? What is the way to go about this? Should I clip the two pieces together and then try to punch through both pieces at the same time? I have decided to eliminate the front pocket on the bag to try and make things easier. Thanks
