I have searched this forum (lots of great info, btw) for guidance to achieve a similar end result as this company did here:

I recently purchased a vintage briefcase that is almost identical to the original in the picture and I would love to be able to try and recreate/achieve similar results as this company was able to do. I am trying to save money by DIY, so I know it won't come out the same but I am confident I can achieve some result if given the proper guidance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
