  1. I have a customer that has requested this type of hardware that looks like a "W". Anybody know what the correct name and where to buy it? Greg
  2. I am looking at buying a Juki lu563 from a commercial company that has gone out of business. It has a 208v 3 phase power source. The price is good however I have no idea what is involved in converting to 120v. Is it as simple as swapping the motor for another one? This would be my first motorized sewing machine so I'm not very familiar with motors, or the costs associated with them. Does this sound like a difficult or expensive conversion?
  3. I think you guys are probably right. Thank you for your input. I did find a newspaper article from 1883 stating that JZ was the grandson of George Horter who was a saddle maker in New Orleans from 1860-83. JZ had a shop from 1882-1903 (assuming also in New Orleans). It would be possible that he went to Cuba after he closed his shop in New Orleans. Style-wise, the saddle looks to be early 1900’s instead of late 1800’s due to the full seat.
  4. J Z Horter Co out of Habana I picked up this old square skirt saddle because it had a maker's name on it. Unfortunately, I can't find out anything about this maker in my books or with Google. In fact, I've never heard of Habana either. Thanks, Greg
  5. Can anyone help me with either of these 2 questions? 1. How is this beautiful antique golden honey color achieved? My efforts just can't seem to produce a consistent color that is this golden and my antiquing seems to discolor the light areas (see 1st pic). What technique and products are used? 2. Is there a geometric type stamping tool that is used for this diamond shaped tooling? Or is this all cut by the swivel knife, steeply beveled, & a dot added on every 'X'? (see pic of bottom knife sheath).
