Sharpening Round/head Knife In The Old Days...
leathertoolz replied to leathertoolz's topic in Leather Tools
Thank you for the reply. I knew about the Belgium Sharpening stones but I was stupid to not think about it for this topic! : ) "Sharpening stones have been around for as long as metal tools." that make sense. they wouldn't have developed it if it's useless! -
Using Round/Head knife, I know that I have to sharpen the knives very very sharp. I use Ceramic stones and White and Green Compound on strop. I just had a curiosity about How the people in the past Sharpened their Round/Head knives to scary sharp? I am sure they didn't have any good stones in the 1800s and early 1900s. only Arkansas stones maybe? Was it enough for their knives? Anyone knows the story?

Hello Thanks for the comment. for the Japanese "Nen"s , you can make very thin, crisp lines on the leather. and the steel is much away from the handle, so that you can prevent the wood from being burnt, cracked etc. and the tip is very thin, so you can draw more easily etc.

Hello. I need a help from tool gurus here in the forum. I googled to find a history about C.S. Osborne Round/Head stamp order. I believe they started 1826. and their stamps have been changed since that time. Is there anyone who can tell me every stamp on the Round/Head knife in chronicle order? As far as I know, Half Round stamp on front and EST.1826 in a box is their first stamp and probably the oldest.
