  1. THANKS A BUNCH DC!!!! That was it! I never even thought to check the bobbin position. I removed the retainer screws and moved it to match yours and voila! perfect stiching, even in reverse!!! I picked the machine up for $200 in an estate sale here in Phoenix and I thought maybe I was ending up with a serious repair job... Wheww.... Again, thanks to everyone for the kind responses! Now it's time to try my hand at some seat re-upholstery. I'm sure I'll be back to pester you all for some more of your knowledge. LOL Eric
  2. Thanks for the replys. I actually started with a 130/21 needle and it exhibited the same issues. I went to a upholstery supply shop and they suggested the 110/18 needles. Do you feel that 1 additional size above the 130/21 would be enough to fix the issue? Thanks again!
  3. First time poster, Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here... I picked up a Juki 563. I went over the machine looking for obviously broken parts, cleaned the old dirt away and lubed all the parts. Thread is bonded polyester t-90. Upholstery grade vinyl. Needle is new 135x17 110/18. I am trying to get it up and running and I'm having an issue with it snapping the top thread below the material on almost every pass. I have been running it in by hand to test it and it does grab the bobbin thread and feed it up. The problem seems to be after the second stitch I feel the machine start to bind and then release. It looks like something in the bobbin assembly is binding in the thread and then breaking it. I was assuming that since it grabbed the bobbin thread that it was timed close to correct. Here are some pictures. I assume it is something simple because the break is so consistent. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Eric
