  1. Hello - Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread on the Singer 132k7 or continue with this thread? I'm currently restoring a 132k7 and have a number of issues I'm trying to resolve. The machine was in a terrible state but thankfully no more! The stitch length now works as it should do having cleaned the cams. However, when set to the maximum length the feed dog (Small one) hits the feed dog plate. The max stitch length I think is 14mm? I did remove one of Cam rods in order to clean it but didn't take a picture of before removing it. I'm pretty sure I re-installed it correctly as it can only go one way having tried it. Do i need a different feed dog plate? The needle comes into contact with the hook! Have ordered some new needles (214x1) as I'm not sure if the needles that came with the machine are the correct specification. I noticed there was a "tight spot" when rotating the hand wheel, turned out to be the main bearings/shaft under the small inspection cover that needed to be cleaned. I am a sewing machine collector and have restored a number of machines, but the 132k7 has been the most challenging to date 🙂 Finding a service manual for the 132k7 is no easy task, but still searching.. Any help would be appreciated with any of the above.. Thank you.
  2. Hi Bob, Thanks very much for reply and the welcome. There's a pinned topic within the fabrication/Leather Sewing Machine section of the forum titled " The type of Sewing Machine You Need To sew Leather" by Wizcrafts This makes an excellent read and is highly informative. I'm not new to industrial sewing machines as I have two,(Straight stitch & Zig Zag) these are designed for light to medium weight fabrics. These machines have been an excellent platform to learn and understand the relationship between needled size, thread size, fabric thickness, upper and lower tension adjustments as well as carrying out basic machine care. As I have discovered on a steep learning curve :-) that understanding your machine is key in order to achieve that perfect stitch. As for walking foot cylinder sewing machines, I have no experience at all. These look to be significantly more expensive, so getting the right machine first time being essential. Right, I'm off to continue my research.
  3. Recently joined the forum which looks to offer a wealth of information not only for leather products but the sewing machines used as part of the manufacturing process. I make kite related products currently on a hobby basis and will be looking to make products for cycling in the near future. My initial aim is to decide on my next industrial sewing machine for sewing thicker fabrics. Early research is pointing me in the direction of a cylinder type walking foot sewing machine, as I think this will be more versatile and will suit my needs very well. Just a question of make and model number, not an easy task as such as there are many to choose from :-)
