  1. I've been doing some carpet binding sewing with my 225 and had some thread jamming problems mostly due to my own inexperience. This led me to having to adjust the hook and needle timing. While doing so, I noticed the drive belt timing was off (after watching numerous video on how to fix the needle timing issue). After getting that adjusted, I proceeded to do some sewing, but the walking feet don't feed the carpet through the machine. I never looked at it when it worked properly, but now the inside foot (with needle in it) moves up and down in synch with the lower feed dog. I'm thinking they should be moving toward each other, then away from each other correct? If so, how do I adjust the machine to get them working properly? Many youtube videos, but none deal with this problem. Thanks in advance.
  2. The guy I bought the machine from used my carpet, leather, and thread to test out and was able to sew the binding(3 folds of leather) on the carpet with a 16 needle no problem I got the machine home and setup adding a servo motor, re threaded the machine and spent 3-4 hours trying to duplicate. I had one problem after another. Rethreaded the machine wrong, didn't get the thread started properly, broke the needle, kept breaking the thread. Finally went with 22 then a 24 needle to get it working and this was the first result.
  3. So if the 225 has no reverse lever, can I manually turn the wheel to reverse stitch?
  4. I just bought my first machine which is unlabeled. Comparing pictures it appears to be a 225 or 226. Can anyone confirm which model it is? The seller showed me how it sewed 207 thread using a #16 needle into 3/8" of leather. He said I should get a #20 needle though. My first task will be sewing leather binding (~1/8" thick total) onto some square weave carpet (~3/16" thick). What needle size would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
  5. Please offer any opinions on a Sewtrong GC-4400. I see one for sale locally used for $750 with table and servo motor. I want to use it for leather auto upholstery. Alternatively, I see a Consew 206RB5 for $1100 new. Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks for the feedback. 5 years ago I would have bought the double needle and tried to make it work like the other fella ...I think I'll listen to your advice and get a single needle to start. What do you think of a Sewstrong GC-4400 with a SS-550 servo motor? Again, I'm not doing large volume, maybe a couple of interiors per year at most, but I want to be able to do stuff when I want and not leave the car a shop for weeks.
  7. Hello, I'm a beginner wanting to purchase my first machine for leather auto upholstery. My focus is making low volume, but high quality auto upholstery like what's shown below. Looking at a refurb. Consew 206 RB5 with a servo motor for about $1000. Or, I found a brother b838 double needle walking foot with servo for $1900. Is it practical to do the double stitching with a single needle machine, or would I need the double needle? I understand the double needle is faster. I'm told by the seller of the Brother B838 I can remove one needle to do the single stitching if needed. Is this also practical? If so, I would have my bases covered with the double needle machine being able to do both single and double stitching. Any opinions?
