  1. Hey, guys. I'm new here, just getting started on tooling. I've done a couple of renaissance belts without tooling, nothing major. Dye, rivet on a loop to tie a knot with and call it done. I'm in the process of working on my first tooled piece, and I'm using the Tandy Printable Tracing Sheets to get my pattern on the leather. The problem I've run into is that the instructions say to print it on the rough side. That's fine, but I've run into a couple of problems: If I trace the stencil with the ink side down, it sticks to the leather and leaves a bit of residue. Plus, some of the laser toner comes off on the leather. If I trace the stencil with the ink side up, my stylus scratches the toner off the printed sheet, leaving an unusable stencil. My questions are, has anyone else run into this? Am I wasting my time with these sheets, and would I be better off printing the pattern on plain paper and then manually transferring it on the standard tracing film? I'm using a standard Tandy stylus, as well. Veg-tanned leather about 6-7 oz. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Thorkull.
