Thanks everyone! This clarifies things. The confusion started when I realized that the "rivet setting" set I bought is probably a snap or eyelet setting set. It also has one of those bars with depressions like in the video.

I've just started with leatherwork, and have a very basic question: I'm using a 1/4 inch diameter rivet from Tandy, the kind that have a "post" side and the side that has the "cap" (not sure these are the right terms, so forgive my newbie vocabulary). Do I strike the rivet on the side that has the post or the side that has the cap? I'm using a flat mini anvil on the opposite side of the leather. Also, I'm guessing the post side is the piece that's supposed to go on the inside/non-public side, and that the cap is the piece that's supposed to go on the outside/public side?
