Not my machine, but it appears if I want to do the side mount, it would indeed require the additional gear, hub, and spindle to make it work with the treadle - but if I wanted to not use the treadle, I could simply swap out the rear assembly to the side (maybe) and abandon the treadle. I think I will just spring for the parts, around $80 for the shaft, pinion, and hub. A second balance wheel would add more money and would be difficult to find but would also not be necessary. The picture I show looks like a 29-4 (or their about) at least that is the style of balance wheel they sported.

The top/right/left/back/side is becoming a bit confusing to me. What I call the back is where the balance wheel is normally located on most modern electric machines, the side to me is the side facing the operator. This machine has the balance wheel located on the back and I'm thinking it might be easier to use, given the long arm, to have it side mounted. I will remove the side cover plate and take a picture or two and post them tomorrow. Thank you for your suggestion.

That's what I thought. Those are the parts I see listed but the seem to be the same parts either way - I was thinking, therefore that I could (I I wanted) simply move the assembly from one place to the other, put on the cover, and be done. Will do.

My 29K60 was acquired recently and is in quite good condition, used by a seamstress rather than a shoe repair business and seems tight and nice. Mine has the balance wheel mounted on the back but I've seen 60's with it mounted on the side as well as one with the balance wheel on the back but with the shaft and pinon on the side, ready for the balance wheel to be moved thereto. I only see one shaft and one pinion listed in parts for similar machines (I've not yet been able to find a parts manual specific to the 60) so I'm guessing that these parts can simply be switched back to side. Anyone know? Thanks.
