Hello,
I’ve worked with leather since I was about 8-9 years old, starting with 4H.
Over the last few years, I have refinished several pairs of shoes and boots by stripping the old polish and re-dying them to a different color.
I would like to do this to a pair of boots now, but it’s a different type of leather. The leather is a thick “dusty grey” waxy/oily leather (possibly CXL). I would like to redye them to match the colors of the college I graduated from (purple and grey).
Is there anything that I need to do differently with this leather? For example, do I need to thin my dye with something other than alcohol? Is there anything special that I need to do prior to applying the dye? (I normally scrub them pretty well with acetone.)
Thank you.
