Many thanks Uwe thats interesting information. Pulling the machine apart and matching serial numbers to parts lists I have found a few parts may not be original. One cover plate comes off a 1246 for example. I suppose you can expect that with the age of the machine. I believe the closest match is the 706/47. So far a reasonable number of parts match that version. Therefore I have taken a punt and ordered a 706/47 arm shaft, end bearing, bobbin wheel etc and a bunch of screws to replace the munted ones. Most of the parts were fairly reasonable in price. It’s been an education working on it and fascinating to see the quality of the original build. thanks again

Hi all, I have come into possession of a 1245 706/08 that has had a bit of a hard life and a fair old flogging. The machine has been dropped at some stage resulting in the 'arm shaft' getting bent at the last 70mm where it exits the body of the machine. I would say the wheel that takes the pulley belt took the brunt of the hit. I managed to take a bit of the bend out of the shaft but the machine vibrates some when running. Not knowing the first thing about sewing machines I decided to get hold of a service manual and see if I could get it to sew. I worked out how to time it and it sews but because of the bent shaft she vibrates like crazy when you put your foot down. I have subsequently extracted the arm shaft and can see a run-out of about 1mm on the shaft and the end bearing is shot. I have parts list for the 706/47 and 48 and 05 and 07 but nowhere can I locate a parts list for the 706/08 model. In fact digging over the net I can't seem to find much on the 706/08 model. Pfaff.com are of little help and seem reluctant to release any info other than owner manuals. The only reference I have found to the 706/08 is in a service manual (link of this site thanks very much) where it states it takes the 190 series needles. I'm picking the machine was manufactured in the fifties judging by the serial # 533344 ?? I would like to get a new arm shaft and bearing and think it takes the same arm shaft as a 706/47. Part # 91-140 066-05. The shaft on my machine is 410mm x 12.76mm in diameter. It has turned into a bit of an addiction cleaning up the machine and pulling it apart. I never realised just how well these machines were made considering how old it is and that it still runs. Appreciate if anyone has any knowledge of this 706/08 model. The exact info on the side of the machine is 1245-706/08 6/01-CSMN. Kasper NZ
