  1. Howdy everyone. Making a leather bible cover for my wife. Trying to find a nice cross pattern that will be beginner friendly. Anyone have any they would be willing to share ? 7" tall max 5" wide max Thanks in advance Bill
  2. Thanks for the advice ! Have alot to learn, but really enjoying it.
  3. While waiting for my tool order to come in, I figured I would spend some time practicing with a swivel knife a buddy gave me. So went by hobby lobby, picked up some leather. Put a good edge on the knife and see what happens. After about two hour s of lines, circles, waves ect I started thinking...... how the heck do these guys do this and make it look so good and easy........... Got alot of practicing to do..lol Then I noticed alot of marks on my leather where I was working the knife. Kinda half moon looking. Then I realized it was from the nail on my right pinky finger. It's not long, just enough to leave a mark. Gotta remember this in the future....trim trim trim. Dont want this to happen on a nice project I'm working on. Back to practice...have a great weekend everyone Bill
  4. Thanks everyone for sharing your wisdom and advice. I have decided to take your advice and not get a kit. Have put a list together using your advice and will order today. Cant wait to get started. Bill

  6. Hey Tom, thanks for the reply. My plans are to make holsters, knife sheaths, wallets, purse for the wife unit, motorcycle tool bag, maybe a backpack etc. Will prob be sewing and lace work, would like to try my hand at adding tooling to each project. To green to know if any tool kit that Tandy and others put out, will come close to what I really need. Dont have deep pockets, so want to get enough to get started and progress from there. Thanks for your help ! BILL
  7. Hey everyone, I know this has probably been asked a million times, but can I ask one more time :-) just starting out, so which kit do you think is best ? Looked at Tandy, ebay, amazon and others, but not really which I should start with. So any advice will be very helpful. looking forward to your replies. thanks Bill

  11. Hey samalan, I see you are into blacksmith and knives. I have been building knives for about 6 years now. Great hobby,
  12. Thanks for the kind words ! I am excited to get started and see what I can do. Will keep you updated Bill
  13. New to the forum and to leather craft. Have been doing relief carvings and checkering on gunstocks for about 35 years. That's getting to be a dying art, so figured I would try my hand at leather work. Seems like alot of the detail that went into my relief carving will transpose into the leather work, just different tools. Going to Tandy this weekend and look at tools and starter kits. I know I will be needing or wanting to upgrade to better tools in the future. Heck, most of my carving tools I made myself. Looking forward to reading all of the great info and picking your brains for advice and wisdom. Have a great day Bill
