What could I do to get dye to properly penetrate? I am working on a piece made from 2 different veg tanned hides. One has taken the black dye well, the other not so much. I attempted to address this by polishing the whole piece in black boot polish, but it seems to have highlighted the difference. My first thought would be to treat the bad sections with Fiebing’s dye-prep and then re-dye. Any other ideas?

Guys, lowering the presser bar did the trick. I’m running perfectly now. Thank you very much! For anyone reading this in future, adjusting the presser bar is really quite straightforward. Removing the face plate is easy and once you’re inside it’s fairly self evident what needs to be done. What a great forum!

Thanks. I definitely have slack in the foot lift chain. I’ll see if I can find some instructions on adjusting the presser bar.

Thanks I’ll check this out.

Ok thanks. When I add the blanket foot I can get the outer foot this low. Does that look right do you think?

Hi all First post. Great forum. I normally sew very thick weight belts on my CB4500, but I’m now looking to make bags, aprons and tool rolls out of recycled canvas. I was wondering if anyone has advice on the optimal setup for canvas? I have set the walking foot height as low as I can, but still can’t seem to get the outer foot low enough. I have checked the chain to make sure there is some slack. This is my setup. I am guessing I should get myself a Centre presser foot with teeth for fabric? Cheers
