Dear All,
A sincere thanks for your collective expertise, goodwill and clarity of explanation. I make bespoke musical instrument gigbags and recently bought a 29K53 (in addition to my hand crank 99K and treadle 201K) and this site has been invaluable. I was going nuts trying to work out why the bobbin shuttle wasn't returning quite enough to catch a loop, and as far as I can find, the photo here of the 3 pinion system is the ONLY helpful resource on the whole internet. It turns out that the rack was proud by one tooth- I mean, how does that even happen??!
The adjustment has resulted in significantly smoother cranking through the cycle, though I still have to work out how to stop the treadle belt slipping (I'm thinking beeswax? I stripped and refinished the treadle with grate blacking- looks beautiful but slips). Now that the machine is looping properly all I have to do is spend inevitable hours experimenting with the tensions...
Many thanks and best wishes to all,
Simon
