juki lu563 hook opener link seems loose
brunolund replied to brunolund's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
i actually took the hook out to check the linkage, and couldn’t see any real wear anywhere. there is a pin that goes through a link that rides on the eccentric on the hook, and the play is coming from where that pin goes through the link. it looked great when i took it out, but maybe i’ll order a new one anyway. i did retime the hook, and it is sewing great now. your videos you have posted have been invaluable in getting this machine set up and working as it should. thank you very much!! before i got this machine, i knew nothing about sewing machines, but am very mechanically inclined. pretty much got this one for free, so the servo motor and speed reducer were the only cost. the slow speed really helps as i’m learning to o sew by re-upholstering pontoon seats. think i’m doing pretty good thanks to this site. -

can’t get video to load, too big. seems to work now after setting it, but still seems to have lots of play in the link. -
not sure if i used the correct term, but when trying to adjust my hook opener, the link that it screws into moves around a bit. is this normal? my thread is catching on the tab under the needle plate, so i went to check the hook opener and it wasn’t moving the bobbin case. i will try to attach a video. thx

hello, i picked up a juki lu 563 and have got it running really well thanks to the help here. the videos from uwe were instrumental!! anyway, i have upgraded to a servo motor with a 5:1 speed reducer, so it slows awesomely slow. i am learning, so that is nice. my only dislike with that, is that it’s almost impossible to turn the hand wheel by hand. i can reach under and turn the big pulley on the speed reducer, but it’s awkward. i’d like to change the pulley on the hand wheel to a larger one, to give me more leverage to turn it. i’m aware this will slow it down further, but i’m fine with that. it will still sew way faster than i need if i use full pedal! that’s with the motor set on the lowest speed as well. i’m using it for marine upholstery so far, not leather. it has plenty of power as is. does anyone know what diameter the shaft is? and is it straight or tapered? do i need a puller to remove it? or is it just held on with set screws? i’m at work and can’t just look at my machine or i would just take it off and measure myself!
