Repairing scuffing on leather

Hey, my mom has a black leather jacket that she absolutely adores, but it is getting kind of worn out and has some scuff marks along the hems. I would like to fix it up for her, but I'm not sure of how to go about it in such a way that the repair won't be noticeable. I was thinking of just using some black dye to fill in the scuffs, but I'm not sure if it will end up being exactly the same color and I'm also concerned that the dye will run/speckle when the coat gets wet. Any suggestions?

Try a good black oil dye in a place that can't be seen rubbing it in well. I personally like Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax for a softer finish because it buffs well with the wax in it. More coats won't hurt for the rest of the jacket also. It goes on cloudy until you buff it then you'll like the finish. I had a prize black leather coat that a drug head bit my arm when he was being arrested leaving teeth marks and scuff. That's what I used on my coat in 1976 and I still have the coat. My $0.02 worth. Hope that helps.
