Speed Reducing Clutch Motor Pulley Alternative

Recommended Posts

I have had difficulty sourcing a 3/4" bore 3L or M belt pulley with small OD. Even McMarkup does not have any!  What I found was a double groove pulley for 6hp - 7hp Honda motor (GX160, GX200, GX120, GX110 motors). Its listed as a 55mmOD pulley, presumably for 4L belts. I found it easy to source for less than $10 in the usual sources.

Both my 3L and M belts sit down in the pulley, dont bottom out and seem to make proper contact. The effective pulley OD with either belts is about 45mm, and in my case will be going from 66 to 45 mm motor pulley, or about 2/3 redcution in speed overall. While it does not crawl, I appreciate the slower overall speed.

I think it will also help if you need to add a belt 'space' if you are using a speed reducer too- it will let you keep your motor position relative to the pulley on the machine and move your jackshaft belt spacing over a belt width.
