Members Kibitz503 Posted June 2 Members Report Posted June 2 Backstory I had an issue where the presser foot was Stuck in the upright position. I messed with 33 and 36 settings as those were something I found online to adjust. In the end the issue was that 14, a bolt that controls the step height, had come loose and went to a 0 height position. I wasn’t sure which direction to offset it. I tinkered and got the machine running again. Current The machine works but it seems to struggle more than before when getting started. I don’t have the same low speed control I once did. I’m also having the presser foot lift getting stuck after raising the presser foot. The problem gets worse the higher I need to lift it. I can only unstick it by rotating the machine. Obviously not ideal for stitch placement! Also makes it unusable for thick stuff which is what this machine is for. Here is where I need help… What should the factory position of bolt 14 be on the slider? What is the best way to adjust 33 and 36 back to ideal settings? Are there any additional things I should be checking? If you can point me to the information or a idea I would greatly appreciate it. I’m reasonably handy but don’t have any specs for this stuff. Thanks, Tom Quote
Members nejcek74 Posted June 3 Members Report Posted June 3 Here is the adjusting manual: https://www.duerkopp-adler.com/fileadmin/dag/Media/Downloads/205/S_204_EN.pdf and a previous topic on the forum linking to Uwe's videos about the machine. I guess that was the video you were following for adjustment? If not, check it. My personal experience: I am still learning adjusting the machine, but I found always the best way to meticulously follow the adjustment manual. No shortcuts. Sometimes I need to repeat the adjusting process few times, maybe something slipped, I did something to tight or too loose or I misunderstood the description. But at the end is always fine and after few repetitions I am already efficient. Quote

Uwe’s videos are great and I’ve watched the one you linked several times. I think this one is the adjust video you were referring to? (See attached I am unable to link it.) I’m certainly game for adjusting that again. it did give a pretty clear view of the bolt I’m concerned with. I added a picture with it highlighted in red. (See Attached) This is the bolt that came loose on me and I’m going to assume it needs to be set before the other adjustment. I can not for the life of me find info on where in the track it’s supposed to sit. I’ll try to use the picture to eyeball it. Edited June 3 by Kibitz503 Added second image Quote
Members Kibitz503 Posted June 5 Author Members Report Posted June 5 (edited) I watched Uwe’s adjustment video several times. it looks like his arm that pushes the slider goes a lot farther towards the front of the machine and does not go as far backwards. Any suggestions about how to get it back in alignment? I attached photos of my machine at max extension vs his in the video. Edited June 5 by Kibitz503 Quote
Members ChristopherC Posted June 17 Members Report Posted June 17 (edited) I’m an owner of the Adler 205-370. I am mechanically minded but very new to this machine, so keep this in mind. I just learned about bolt 14 the other night when trying to sew thinner leather. I bought the machine and it was set up to sew very thick harness leather. I discovered the machine was set to lift the presser foot to maximum height of 10 mm, which was too high and unnecessary for the projects I was currently sewing. I learned that by positioning the needle into the “almost penetrating” position and loosening bolt 14 I could use a screwdriver to hook the groove and pull slider block number 13 up all the way. This reduced the lift of the pressor foot to the minimum amount which is 5 mm which was plenty adequate for the thinner projects I was sewing. Looking at your photos you posted and the photos from the video it looks like something is out of adjustment with regards to both parts 33 and 36. You need to find the procedure to adjust and set these. I will keep a lookout and post if I find anything. chris Edited June 17 by ChristopherC Quote
