is a consew 206rb.is it good for sewing mid to heavy weigh leather?

posting this for a friend,i guess he pick the setup for cheap was used to sew bamboo curtains in a textile shop..any info would be appericated! thanks..

theres a couple left going for around 700.00.if anybodys intrested? they retail for around 1200.00.. im posting this for a friend any questions,i will foward it to him..

Medium yes... heavy no. It will max out at just a bit over 1/2"

Yes, it will sew Veg Tan if you're edgestitching a single thickness 10oz belt (for instance). But, I wouldn't use it for assembling a heavy construction.

what is you were going to use it to sew 8 oz tooling leather to a layer of chap leather?

I don't think the presser foot rises more than 7/16". Even then, a servo motor and a reducer are a must. I have the Consew 206RB5, and even with a servo motor, it won't sew 2 layers of 8-9oz. without groaning. Gotta get me one of those reducer thingies....

Yes, I would agree with that. The one I use is a 206RB-1 and it will not lift any higher than 7/16" at maximum. A good medium weight machine, with large capacity bobbin.

If I am not mistaken, the 206RB-5 lifts to 9/16" max.

Yes, you are most likely correct, I have never used a 206RB-5, only a 206RB-1.
