Method to Estimate Eyelet/Grommet Lacing Length?

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any Method for estimating approximate lacing length required, for lacing to be used in double-row eyelet/grommet work?

( such as in the sides of a leather skirt, waist cincher, gauntlets, etc.)
