clicker dies

Recommended Posts

This topic started on another thread, but it's kinda run dry. I'm shopping for a shop press to use as a clicker, and thanks to a lot of help, I've found a good possibility. But, before i make the jump, I'd like to know about the cost of the dies. Weaver has dies that seem spendy to me. Are those typical prices?

Thanks to the people on this forum, I've been slowly advancing into new areas. I even had a tooling lesson recently! I'll show you some kind of first project soon. But for now I'm hot on the clicker press idea.

Doug,

Not sure what Weaver's prices are. I have some from Big Sky Tool and Die in Gwinn, Michigan and Texas Custom Dies in Mansfield Texas. The Big Sky were their standard dies, and I got two simple customs from Texas Custom Dies. There have been some previous threads that have mentioned other sources too. There seems to be a lot of die makers who make them up too.

Thanks Bruce. I just found the Search feature on the forum, and that's got it all. Never used it before. Slow learner. But thorough.

check out the one from weaver, and if u have a welder or have use of one, you can build one like it for a fraction of the cost of buying one already built, as for a shop press, there cheap, but you have to change it around to do a large clicker die such as a gun sling, they dont put pressure out to the outer end, the style that weaver carriers with the table riding on the outer post will transfer the pressure out words and u can make it as big or as small as u like

Kfiretwo, good points about transfer of pressure, but my die requirements would be 8x8" max. I think the Weaver press is just 6 tons? Seems light compared to what the other posters on the forum use. Most of my leather will be 12-13 oz.

if u build ur own u can set a 20 ton jack or bigger to do what u need

n with the weaver i never seen one up close just in the book but i would guess u could use a higher ton jack to operate it
