Members dog Posted March 22, 2009 Members Report Posted March 22, 2009 Just finnished this last week. I would like to hear your critiques. I had the opportunity to work with Steve Mecum this winter. I recieved a scholarship through the TCAA. I couln't believe how much I learned. Steve and all the members of the TCAA are excellent teachers and good people. Thanks, Dave Beagle Quote
Contributing Member rdb Posted March 22, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted March 22, 2009 Beautiful work. If this is your first, or one of your first few, you have found a calling! For the record, could you explain the scholarship, and the TCAA for those of us not in the Saddle trade? It's wonderful to know that there is real help out there for those wanting to join the trade. Members dog Posted March 22, 2009 Author Members Report Posted March 22, 2009 Thank you, this is my 14th saddle. The TCAA is an association that was started by some of the best saddle makers, braiders, silversmiths, and bit and spur makers. Their mission is to keep the tradition and cowboy arts alive. They have a scholarship program that allows the applicant to go work with one of the members. The members allow the applicant to come to their shop and spend approximately a week observing them building a saddle, bit, or bosal, etc. You can view their work at www.tcowboyarts.org Thanks, Dave Beagle Quote

Obviously you have fine tuned your skills very well. It is amazing how much can be learned from spending some time with a master of the craft, regardless of one's previous skill or experience. Now you have me thinking...hmmmm Quote Brent Tubre email: BCL@ziplinkmail.com

gtwister09 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Nice work, great details. I like the little extras like the beading on the roughout, the boxed loop and the rope strap. Carving is nice also. I'm sure that you have got your money's worth from the scholarship. Regards, Ben Quote
