wildrose Report post Posted June 17, 2009 My favorite cousin is getting married in Sept. and I'd like to make her something special. I was thinking of a binder she could use for a photo album, but am open to suggestions. If I go the binder route, I'd like suggestions on designs/patterns for it. (Not the binder itself, but what to put on it). Her name is Asheley, and her fiance is James.

I want to bind a bunch of acid free paper for a wedding album/scrap book type of gift. On the cover, I want to carve their names the date of their wedding, maybe a cross and a couple of wedding rings in gold leaf. I also want to incorporate the words "With This Ring", possibly on the spine. My biggest problem is getting the paper bound!
azrider Report post Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) I am working on a piece right now for my friends' wedding. It is a wall piece that will go in a 16x24 inch frame I bought. The frame will hang horizontally. The left side has their last name in old English lettering about 2 and a half inches tall. Under that in the same lettering but only and inch and a half tall it says Est. June 20, 2009 (Note to self, get this done soon...) Under that is their family Coat of Arms. On the right side, I made a Celtic picture frame based on the July/Aug Leathercrafters and Saddler's journal that will hold a 5x7 picture of them. (So basically it is a 16x24 inch matting for a 5x7 picture.) The groom was a groomsmen at my wedding, so I have some pictures of the couple, and it will be delivered with one of them in it. Besides a seamstress I am an author and self publisher...after doing many many searches over the net a few years back I finally came across this site and since I've always keep on hand/ use and pass along this would probably help you and many here's a website that is greeat for how to bound paper and make your own books, I believe that this will help you in making your wedding gift! here is the website Hope that this works great for you (and others) http://nomediakings.org/doityourself/doity...book_press.html lea
King's X Report post Posted June 21, 2009 WildRose I would consider a photo album because there will be a lot of photographs from the wedding and reception, it would make a nice coffee table addition. As for designs, you can google images related to weddings and go from there. Something like a dove with lace and two rings with the names of the groom and bride in the middle in fancy script. Or you can center an opening for the wedding invitation and small photograph of the bride and groom. Good luck
Milli Report post Posted June 21, 2009 I've been looking for ideas to put on a wedding photo album too. My daughter is getting married in July. I was in Target today, and they have a wooden wall plaque that just said "and they lived happily ever after". I was thinking that would be great to put on the album, but can't decide where. Maybe on the front at the bottom, or maybe on the back cover. Any other suggestions?
BarryKing Report post Posted July 2, 2009 The photo albumn is always a hit. Other idaes are: Picture frame (with a pic of your favorite at their bachelor or bachelorette party) Ice Bucket (helps if they are drinkers) Coasters Desk pad for the home office Mouse pad I usually put the monogram or the names and date on the cover. Sometimes just the last name initial can be very classy if done right.
bruce johnson Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Wooden magazine racks are a little different too. Tool a piece to go over the ends or the side with their names or initial. They can go on with glue and upholstery tacks. You could also do a leather magazine can. I did one as a wedding gift order. As an afterthought the best man had me make a matching lid with a slot for guests to drop in wedding cards at the reception. People starting shoving money in there too, and they MADE OUT WELL!!! Beats those tacky "money dances".
wildrose Report post Posted July 2, 2009 My mom was a bit against a "home made" gift idea (thanks for the support, Mom!) However, when I was at the bridal shower this weekend, I talked to the bride-to-be (my cousin) and her mom (my aunt) and found out that she would love and truly appreciate something hand made. Another cousin knitted her a beautiful afghan, and she went on about how much she loves hand made things. So that sealed it for me. Her colors are even easy: chocolate brown and blue (have to find out what shade of blue). So right now I'm leaning toward the album. I like the can idea, esp. with a lid they could use for cards; but I'd be afraid I couldn't do it justice since I've not done anything like that before. KatieG Report post Posted July 14, 2009 Well, I just got married in October sooooo... I would have loved to have gotten a specialized wedding album. (Granted, we got some very nice presents, but we are also big fans of homemade gifts; most of ours were store-bought or money - not like we're complaining...) I don't find handmade items tacky or inappropriate - I think that someone who takes the time to find out about the couple - how they met, first date, things they like, etc - and use that and their skills to create them something beautiful is touching and worth more than all the money in the world. (My hubby's aunt made us a crocheted blanket. Simple in design, but he is ecstatic over it! Loves it to death. And I've made off with it too!!) I've never been a big fan of the traditional, but for a wedding, it is kind of apropos. Are they getting married at a special venue? Any colors or patterns they like? Something unique about them you can add to make it extra-special? Or if not a photo album.. what are their interests? Maybe they like to play cards together... make a carrying case for a deck or two. Maybe it's golf - make them a scorepad keeper! I don't know the couple so I can't really say. It'd even be really neat if you could sneakily collect photos of the bride and groom as kids, teens, adults.... dating, etc... (from parents or friends) and fill the first part of the album of those (Heck, digital copies can be easily made or reprinted -or resized, edited, cropped, etc- so you could return the originals!), leaving the rest free for their new life together. Actually I kind of like that last idea. Darn it, now my friends need to get married!!!
TroyS Report post Posted July 14, 2009 This may be cheating, but it is what it is! We purchased a leather photo album. (Actually, the bride saw the album while shopping and bought it) We plan to LASER ETCH the front cover with one of their favorite wedding photos. I've designed a layout with the wedding date and wedding rings, then put the photo under the design using Adobe Photoshop, then laser etch the entire image on the front of the album. A quick airbrushed Satin Shene sealer and VIOLA ! A wedding photo album totally personalized for THEM and NO ONE else has one! YET! Troy I'll post pics as soon as it's finished! wildrose Report post Posted July 14, 2009 They're having a beach front wedding, and the bridal shower had alot of shore-side themes to it. They're honeymooning in Hawaii, I believe. So while I usually do Celtic stuff, I should likely find some beach-y themes. I've decided I'm going to go with an album. There are always LOTS of wedding photos, professional and otherwise, so it'll be useful.
dawn Report post Posted July 15, 2009 I have done a couple of photo books one for a baby's first birthday, and one for a wedding gift. The wedding gift one was cool because They were bikers and horse owners and wanted something that wasn't fancy so i tooled a picture of his bike and her horse. The baby book was a portrait of the baby and her birthday. For a inside liner on that one, instead of leather i found a nice printed flannel material. I think they make awesome gifts. i know the ones that where given by my were greatly appreciated and they thought it was a awesome idea. I've attached some pics for you to checkout

You could do a celtic knot pattern in like seashells or something...like the love knot.
