cowgirlteacher Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Does anyone have any information on a saddle maker named James Abbott? A friend of mine recently aquired the saddle and it is stamped James Abbott with a #6 right below the name on the top of the rear housing. Could this possibly be the owner of the saddle and not the maker? The saddle has a high back and is roughout. I am going to post pictures of the saddle soon. I apologize if I have done this wrong as it is my first time to post. Thanks so much for any help you can give me!
Casey Jordan Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I tryed to look him up in the Old Cowboy Saddles and Spur book. This book lists most of the makers, of course some are missing for one reason or another. Are there any other markings on it? Do you know where it came from? Sorry for the lack of help.
bruce johnson Report post Posted July 9, 2009 I looked in the same book as Casey and didn't find anything either. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. That might help to ID the style and maybe date it by swell shape, fender style, and things like that.

Sorry it's takin me so long to get these on here, I couldn't figure out how to post the pictures, hopefully I have it right this time. I found a brand on the saddle when I went back to take the pictures. I included it in the photos. It is an x with a bar on top, might be a clue to where it has been. My friend said that he bought it from a man here in Oklahoma but has no clue where that man got it. I have searched in several places but have yet to come up with anything on James Abbott but I am going to look up the brand to see if that gives me any clues. I am doing research on the saddle in trade for shooting lessons. So far I seem to shoot better than I research, so any help will be appreciated. Sorry again for the delay in responding. Thanks so much!
