Members TheTrooper Posted August 9, 2009 Members Report Posted August 9, 2009 Dear all, sadly I have pierced a leather piece in an area where it should not be. Do you know a way how I can make a stitching awl whole nearly invisible ?!? I was thinking about coloring some leather flour, mix them with glue and put them into the whole ?!? I appreciate every single hint. THX in advance. Cheers, Marcel Quote FKA adamant-leather Feel free to visit my site adamant-leather.de
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted August 9, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted August 9, 2009 Nice thing about an awl hole is that it CAN be closed. IMO, you need to wet the hole and allow the leather to swell back into place. Flexing it should help the fibers 'get back in position'. A thin glue can be used to seal the hole closed (careful about not getting glue on the surface) once it's dry. If you can, stamp/stitch over it because the puncture in the grain side will be visible as a small line. Just my take on things, someone else may have a better solution. Contributing Member UKRay Posted August 9, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted August 9, 2009 I'd go with Mike, Marcel. Just wet the leather and squeeze and flex the sides of the hole together. When it is all back in place give it a 'gentle' tap with a shoemaker's hammer and you should find the hole vanishes.
