Insole stitcher - v - outsole stitcher

Recommended Posts

I have just started experimenting with shoe making and It was suggested that I acquire an insole or an outsole stitcher - at least, I think that is what they said!

To be honest, I don't really understand the difference - can someone help with a description of their individual uses please?

Hey, maybe I need both! LOL

An outsole stitcher stitches around the outer welt of a shoe, to fix the sole to the welt (often referred to as a 'Goodyear' welt).

An insole stitcher stitches from the inside of the shoe, through the turn of the upper, and out through the sole, also for fixing the sole to the upper. It's more often used on a mocassin-style shoe, and is sometimes known as 'Blake' stitching.

Any clearer . . ?

Good Morning Ray

I just stated to work with a shoe repair shop and from what I have learn an insole machine is one that puts the outer part of the shoe like the vamp to the first sole, thats what the first step to building the shoe, this machine is an needle & awl machine which does a loop stitch. The next machine to stitch boot soles on is also a awl & needle machine but a curved needle machine and it stitches through the welting and your first sole to attach the final sole before you put the heels on.

Thanks yeolde
