CEversole Report post Posted September 10, 2009 Greetings from Texas! My name is Cord Eversole I've been seriously working with leather for about four years now, although I dabbled in it a little as a youngster. I started tanning deer hides and making buckskin items and knife sheaths. Later I started working for a ranch that hadd a leather shop in one of the barns and during the winter months and rainy days my time was spent in there teaching myself the trade for the most part. After I learned the basics I bought some books and made some contacts and started learning a little from other people. I make just about anything you can think of out of leather, I completed my first saddle about 2 months ago and am fixing to start on my second. I'm kinda dissapointed that I didn't find this site sooner!!!

TimDreamer Report post Posted November 13, 2009 Wow, all sorts of people here from Texas. Anyone know of a leather guild here in the Baytown area?
TimKleffner Report post Posted November 14, 2009 TimDreamer The nearest guild would be in Austin. Give the Tandy/Leather Factory a call. The other one is Lone Star Leather guild in Fort Worth. Give HideCrafter Leather a call. I'm down here in Corpus Christi and belong to the Lone Star guild. How far are you from Corpus ? Give me a shout if I can help out. Happy tooling Tim

TZHunter Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Greetings to all the Texas folks ! I grew up in Bishop, TX (6 miles from Kingsville, 25 from Corpus) my folks still live there. I worked in Baytown for Exxon out of College years ago. Now am a Missionary in Kenya, East Africa, coming back to south TX every few years for a few months. Still do a little leatherwork as hobby. Can get GREAT Veg Tan leather here for under $1/sq foot. . .wish I had more time for this hobby. When you are 15,000 miles away, It's great to here folks talking about "home" here on Leatherworker !
