I had use some kind of opaque tint a friend of mine had and just used antique gel before but this time decided to do it right and dye the leather. went to local leather supply and got the Fiebings light blue leather dye. wanted kind of a medium blue and actually asked the guy who worked there if it would be extreamly light. he said no on tooled leather it would be dark. Took it home and made a test piece with the same kind of background as on my project and used the dye. Looked solid black. Ok did not have solvent not sure if water or oil based so read box said clean with rubbing alcohol so I cut it - gradually eventully having a few drops in about 2 to 3 oz of alcohol in a bowl. Still black on the leather final got so thin it was just a stain but never medium blue much less light blue. Is the the wrong product for this application (does not appear so from tandy catalog or box) do I need Fieblings thinner or am I just flat missing the boat somewhere. dirtclod Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Don light blue is pretty dark as you have found out. The Tuqoures " really screwed the spelling up " the color of the rock they make rings and jewelry out of drys to a pretty nice light blue color. It's close to the color in the picture. After looking i can't find a picture of the piece i used it on. Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.

Im in the southwest know exactly the color you are describing & it would look great. I was exhausted last night when I finished (worked a 10 hour day got the kids in bed and started dyeing) and realized a I made made a dumb mistake when I got up this morning. After drying it did get light enough I can use a diluted version & the blue shows very well. Doh. After useing the paints guess I never considered how long it would take to dry or how much difference it would make. I still think he stuff is still amazingly dark given the name light blue and the color swatch in tandys catalog. Don Quote
