Members itchaguide Posted January 29, 2010 Members Report Posted January 29, 2010 This is my intro post, I am pretty new to leather work. I work as a hunting guide and spend a couple of months a year in the mountains living in a tent and use the little bit of down time that I have to make gear for my rig. Unfortunately tooling is not a option in the bush but I have recently purchased some stamps and hope to change from pure working tack to some that is a little nicer to look at. here is the stuff I made over the last couple of seasons, all done by hand without a pattern.. I finish with NF and remaining color comes from hours in the weather.. I would appreciate any info on the best method to protect leather gear from the elements without ruining the natural properties of the leather. I have been told waterproofing with products like Dubbin etc are not good for the gear. I am also looking for a breast collar pattern to go with the taps that are next on my list. Thanks Rod Quote
Members bentley Posted January 29, 2010 Members Report Posted January 29, 2010 Work looks good and functional. I have a breast collar pattern that I am working on for my McClellan saddle, I traced it off an existing military one. I will send you a copy when I am done if you want it. Quote
