Bosal Number 2 Is Done.

Recommended Posts

Turned out ok. I hadn't really intended to make the nose button gaucho pattern but that's what I ended up with. Now if I can just figure out why.   Still need to cut my nose button strings a bit thinner still getting a little crowding.

Thanks,

2 interweaves on the heel knot. So When you do a second one it needs to be u3o3 a third interweave would be u4o4...

Wow, I didn't know you you making another. I really like this one, course I liked the other too. The only thing that doesn't look quite right to me is the strings on the heal knot could be cut smaller.

megabit great job !! their is a strand right at at front of heal close to the top tht looks diferent but it works. to try to answer your question about the goucho pattern it is basically because at the end/s of the nose button if you did a multiple string knot when you turned back into it you had a parallel split from under the bits. grant explains this well the pattern can be chahged by changing the way the bits are nested at the end s of the button. in this same manner the pattern can be alternated in the nose button if you wanted to make sections of the button in different paterns for example, but this is another subject. if you did a long button in one string or with two then the way you entered the button in the second interweave would change the lead you were paralleling but i dont think you did it this way because it would be very apparent from the get go and you would have noticed it right away after the first pass. well im rambling too much any questions just haalla !!

I've been looking closer at my heel knot and I have one string that is way off pattern. :( That and Alan feels that the swell in the nose button needs to have a smoother transition to keep from creating a pressure point and soring my horse's nose. I could live with the gaucho pattern but I don't want to sore my horse.

What are the chances of being able to redo the nose button without completely undoing the heel knot? I am afraid I won't be able to get it back together if I take it back apart.

Hey Mike, don't get too upset! You will have to take the whole thing apart to redo the nose but you can also get it back together if you are careful when u take it apart. I don't think you can put a nice noseband on with out having the body laid out straight. OR you could just keep that one on your wall as a decoration AND as a reminder to slow down, think ahead, look ahead, look for the pattern, keep track of your passes, and follow the sequence. The only people that have never had these problems are folks that don't braid!

Yea I was sorta getting to that conclusion too. I actually think I can get it apart and back together. I remembered that I tied two ring knots around the body strings. I tied a large one that I wrapped the body strings around and then tied a small one around the strings coming out the bottom. So I should have enough length to get it re-wrapped.

Like I said before if it was just the wrong pattern I would live with it (I am kinda starting to like the way it looks). But I don't want to take a chance on making my mare's nose sore because the center swell is to abrupt. I'll tear it apart after I get done with the braided hanger I am working on.

F that. don't take it apart. if u want a new nose. tie one. take a knife level that 1 off and round it up. and wham. ready to start braiding right over the top of it. do the same with that heel knot. trim it 2 shape and then cover it. but use thinner strings narrower strings. you will have plenty of girth and will be needin 2 watch weight. that is a great start dont give up on it. finish it with a nicer knot and brag and tell everbody about using long g knots for core material instead of some EL' CHEAP O tape.
