beanthere Report post Posted March 27, 2010 Hello, looking for any expertise on these two items. I bought a large lot of vintage tools because there were a few I really wanted, I ended up with a ton of Tack/Saddle needles and some other things I can at least identify. These two items I am not as sure about. I have seen mallets like this before but most don't seem to reference a maker this one has UA&N Co W MEDWAY No. 2 cast in the bottom washer. The only thing I can find is a place in the UK called Medway? That may make sense, there was a book with the lot called Saddlery and Harness Making edited by Paul N. Hasluck (1994 edition) who seems to be popular in the UK. Anyway, if you have any information about value of this maker I would appreciate it. As for the cast iron dish, I am guessing it is just a caddy to put nails in? It also appears it should be on a stand or post so it can spin? Again any information appreciated. dirtclod Report post Posted March 27, 2010 I don't know anything about the maker of either one. But your right the tray is for tacks, nails and anything else you want to put in it. The rawhide on the maul looks like it needs to be replaced but is still usable.
