Members Buddy NY Posted May 7, 2010 Members Report Posted May 7, 2010 Gotta start off telling ya , i like my Boss. not problems, minor if any. Im sure this was subject was tossed about, But i couldnt find it So here goes,,, The Material Guide attachment on the aluminum Boss's are held on by one steel machine screw threaded into the aluminum housing. On mine, a 1/16 turn past snug, stripped the alum threads on the machine (Snug was not tight enough, to much slop) my fix was to re-tap the threads to a larger thread size, then i ground down a Hex head machine screw as to not hit the bobbin its flush with the inside wall of the machines housing, Problem solved has this been a problem common to the alum boss's or was mine a freak thing thanks Buddy Quote
Members iwannabeacowboy Posted May 7, 2010 Members Report Posted May 7, 2010 I've had the Boss for around 11 months, and no problems with mounting screws. I switch between the flat bed and the Material guide maybe once a month. charlie Quote

Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted May 8, 2010 Contributing Member Report Posted May 8, 2010 If you have continuing problems with wallowed or stripped holes, you might try installing a heli-coil. I have used them in other applications (typically auto-repair) to repair stripped holes. It looks like a coil spring, but is designed to thread into a hole and have a bolt/screw threaded into it.
