Pull At The Dot Snaps...can They Be Made?

Recommended Posts

I have a flashlight holder that has a regular line 24 snap.

The snap takes the weight of the heavy flashlight. The snap is

peened on the dome towards the edge. It will only open

If pulled from the edge that is peened. Could this be a

homemade pull at the dot snap? Have any of yall done this before?

Thanks-Charles

It sounds like it might be somebody's attempt at homemade DOT snap......but, does it look as good as the real thing? I'm pretty sure that a lot of folks could rigengineer something like that, but at what cost? Is it worth saving a few bucks to have your products look like a half baked butcher job? Personally, I'd rather use the real thing and have my work known for craftsmanship and appearance, than be known to be clever yet cheap.

Thank you for your response. I agree that a cheap look is a

Horrible thing. I was just asking because I have a beautiful handcuff strap

I made, and I don't want to booger it up by trying to remove the old snap.

The regular snap won't hold under the weight of a pair of cuffs mixed with

Being knocked about on your waist. Thanks again.

The snap removal part is pretty easy. You'll need a drill bit just a little larger than the post of the snap, a 1/4 inch bit should do fine. Go to the inside of the snap and you'll see where the post is peened over, or mushroomed. Use the drill to slowly cut off the peened portion of the post, very similar to drilling out a rivet, and the rest of the snap should easily separate.
