I have looked around and can't seen to find an answer. can I reuse my leather strop? One it's dirty can it be effectively cleaned and re used?

Also, I saw a write up recently where someone recommended using a dense card board to strop instead of leather. Any thoughts on this?

I put more compound on my strop when it gets dirty. Right now i am trying the cardboard glued to a piece of wood and it works fine. For me i found that it easier to get the compound ruibbed into the strop if i heat it a little with a hair dryer then rub on espically with the white and green compound.

I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.

You can use mild soap and warm water to clean it. Don't soak it, rinse off all the soap by whiping off with a damp cloth. Let it dry and redress it. Murphy's oil soap should work.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the info. Don't have any Murphy's. Would EVOO or Lexol work? Would one be prefered over the other?
