Contributing Member UKRay Posted December 30, 2010 Contributing Member Report Posted December 30, 2010 I have a commission to supply a 12" blade 14th century style rondel dagger in a sheath - can any of you knife making guys supply the hardware please? I'll underwrite the job so you won't have any worries about getting paid. The knife should be 'historically correct' but not necessarily a copy of an existing piece. Essentially the customer wants a nicely finished dagger that is not mass produced. For more information about rondel daggers please see: http://www.myarmoury...pot_rondel.html Drop me a PM or email if you need more info. Cheers, Ray Quote
Members Bardster Posted December 30, 2010 Members Report Posted December 30, 2010 HI Ray, I know a few makers of historical stuff, some a lot more expensive than others. Tod makes some wonderful stuff http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/knives-military/rondel-daggers-military-knives.htm but may be more than your customer wants to pay. Owen Bush, who replied to you on BB is a top notch maker too. A little more basic would be Rod Matless of interknife, http://www.interknife.co.uk/ Pauls Binns is another maker of reenactment weapons. Contributing Member UKRay Posted December 30, 2010 Author Contributing Member Report Posted December 30, 2010 I'm awaiting a reply from Owen and I spoke briefly to Rod at TORM but he said he wasn't making any more custom knives. I don't know Paul Binns but his work looks excellent. However, his 6 month waiting list is a tad offputting as I need this by May. I like Tod's work a lot but would like to see what else might be available from other makers. Ray Quote
Members whinewine Posted December 30, 2010 Members Report Posted December 30, 2010 Ray: you might also try http://www.dixiegunworks.com - they have lots of parts that can be re-fabricated appropriately & the US prices are decent. Shipping to UK??? russ Quote
Members NoahL Posted December 30, 2010 Members Report Posted December 30, 2010 You can't go wrong with Owen, and you can also check Mad Dwarf Workshop or Ben Potter Quote
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted December 30, 2010 Members Report Posted December 30, 2010 Go over to www.iforgeiron.com there are quite a few Brit smiths on there that may be able to help you out. Some are also on British Blades. There is a bladesmithing section on the IFI forum. Quote
dirtclod Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Ray give them a sharp stick in a sheath that ought to do it sense it's a 14 century dagger. Quote
Members hivemind Posted December 31, 2010 Members Report Posted December 31, 2010 Ray, I'm new to knifemaking, but a rondel isn't a hard project - in fact I'm making two of them now. Let me get them done, and you can take a look and see if it's up to par for what you need. Couple weeks I'll have one done. Quote

Members Olivier Posted December 31, 2010 Members Report Posted December 31, 2010 I might be interested too since I've been wanting to make a rondel dagger for quite a while now. I attached a pic of something I made earlier this year just to prove that I do make knives.....and stuff. Quote
Contributing Member UKRay Posted December 31, 2010 Author Contributing Member Report Posted December 31, 2010 That is a beautiful piece of work, Olivier. I'd be very interested to see what you can do with a rondel dagger. Drop me an email if you need any more information. Ray Quote
Members hivemind Posted January 8, 2011 Members Report Posted January 8, 2011 Here's where I'm at with the one I'm working on right now. It needs more cleaning up, but the general idea is there. I'm not offended if you're not interested Ray, I'm still in my first month of this knifemaking thing and have a long way to go to not suck. Quote
