Members drkuhn Posted January 7, 2011 Members Report Posted January 7, 2011 Hello from Kansas I am new to leather work. I started working with it last summer. Was looking for holsters for some old shooters I have. After doing some research on YouTube and some other sites on how to build a holster I started thinking I might try to do the work myself. Well, I think I am hooked. I've made about a dozen holsters now. I've made a few custom pieces for local Police officers and shooting buddies of mine. I really enjoy working with leather. A lot of trial and error on my part on the first ones. I am starting to branch out a little now. I've made a few little things, cell phone holder, pocket watch holder and a few wrist bands for my daughters. Starting and new belt this weekend. Just purchased a few carving tools last week as a Christmas gift to myself. Looking forward to using them on the belt. What I've seen on this site so far is amazing and I know I can learn allot from everyone. Wish you all the best on your projects! Thanks drkuhn Quote

I am in the Ottawa Kansas area. It is a little short notice, but we are having a Leather Guild meeting for the Santa Fe Trail Leather Artist Guild meeting tomorrow. You are more than welcome to come. Our meeting is from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, but I am putting on a pot of chili for lunch and anyone is welcome to make a day of working on projects and sharing ideas. Feel free to drop me a line. We will look forward to seeing some pictures of your work. Leatherwork is not a hobby....it's an addiction!! Quote

acox4t4 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Howdy there ! I'm in Salina so not to far from ya. I'm not into the working of leather other then learning how to cut it into lace so that I can braid. I'm wanting to learn how to make horse tack. I will diffently agree with ya on the addiction part, its as bad as playing golf. Like in golf you have crappy shots and then you hit one good one that makes ya want to play again. Have a good one, hope to see ya on alot and see your work. Annette Quote
Members drkuhn Posted January 8, 2011 Author Members Report Posted January 8, 2011 Thanks for the welcome. I think I will be on quite abit. Lots to see on here. I watched some braiding demos online. Seems very dificult to me. I think I would go cross eyed. I thought it would be good to learn and add some braiding to belt work for my girls. I may have to pick your brain. Thanks again.
